Bird Watching...

Over the past few days we have been learning all about the birds we might see in our neighborhood. We made binoculars out of paper tubes and went for a nice long bird watching walk. We spotted a lot of birds we know and a few we didn't know. We worked with a partner. We had a pair of binoculars, a sheet for tallies, and a clipboard. We went all around the school yard looking for robins, sparrows, blue-jays, cardinals, hummingbirds, other (mystery) birds and nests. We found a lot of robins, sparrows and "mystery" birds. We didn't see any cardinals, blue-jays or hummingbirds. It was a very windy day, but we had fun!

Those are such awesome binoculars! I bet they were as much fun to make as they were to use! I'm glad the birds are finally coming back out for you to watch.

I bet you had to be very quiet so as not to scare the birds. We have lots of sparrows around our Kindergarten. They like to swoop in after we have had morning tea at the outside table to pick up our crumbs! There are also lots of seagulls as we are near the water. What a good idea to go bird watching.

Good Afternoon to Ms. Blakely's Class! This is a note from your friend Amy White in WV. I thought that your bird watching activity looked like such fun! What an adventure you must have had. Not only do I teach college students, but I have 2 little girls at home who love to look at the birds. We have a bird feeder on our back deck and have seen many different birds. We have identified chickadees, cardinals, blue jays, nuthatch, titmouse, sparrows, morning doves, juncoes, towhee, catbirds, and others. We have also seen robins, but they don't eat from our feeder. Do you know what they eat? Well, hope you keep looking for birds. Bird watching can be alot of fun!
